Shane Warne hits out at former England cricketer over Matt Prior’s Ashes jibe at Australia
egendary Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne has blasted former England batsman Chris Adams over his tweet that took a jibe at how Australia reacted to the close defeat in Leeds in the 3rd Ashes Test.
Ben Stokes's match-winning 135 not out kept the series and England's Ashes hopes alive as the hosts completed a record chase to level the 5-match series at 1-1. Stokes stitched a 76-run stand for the 11th wicket with Jack Leach during which the tail-ender scored only 1 run.
The drama-filled penultimate over of the match from Nathan Lyon gave rise to the controversy. It was first a simple opportunity to run Jack Leach out at the non-striker's end after a horrible mix-up between the last English pair. However, Australia have seemingly robbed off an opportunity to retain the Ashes when on-field umpire Joel Wilson gave Stokes not out when he was trapped in front by Lyon.
The replays showed 3 reds but Australia were unable to overturn the decision as they had used up all their reviews. Stokes held his nerve and helped England complete a miraculous chase.
Even as Ben Stokes' heroics dominated newspaper headlines, a section of Australian media highlighted umpire Joel Wilson's costly error.
Pointing out the said reactions, former England batsman Matt Prior took to Twitter to hit out at Australia.
